Pork for the Pantry Delivers 800 Pounds of Protein to Augusta County Families
This week, The Farm Ministry was proud to coordinate another impactful Pork for the Pantry donation—this time right here in Augusta County. On Monday, June 9th, an estimated 800 pounds of locally-raised pork were delivered to food pantries across the county, helping fill the freezers and stomachs of neighbors in need.
The pork, sourced from 4-H and FFA youth exhibitors in Augusta County, was processed and distributed to community food pantries in Stokesville, Craigsville, Churchville, Swoope, and Verona. These contributions provide high-quality protein to families facing food insecurity while also supporting the young agricultural producers who are raising these animals with care and purpose.
This delivery wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of several local partners:
Rockingham Cooperative
Delegate Chris & Jennifer Runion
F&M Bank
Mossy Creek Cattle
Moonlite Farm
Also, many thanks to Buffalo Gap High School FFA Chapter for handling the hogs in between sale day and their processing appointment, and to Brett Seal who has continually hauled hogs for this program over the years.
“We’re not just feeding people—we’re investing in the next generation of farmers,” said Adam Ford of Rockingham Cooperative. “This program is about making a long-term impact in both agriculture and community support.”
Pork for the Pantry is a statewide initiative that connects youth livestock projects with local food relief efforts. By purchasing and donating animals raised by young producers, the program tackles food insecurity while educating the public about where their food comes from.
